My friend Pam just told a great story about how she and her husband shop at our local Kroger. She focuses on what what she's planning to cook, and her husband goes into hunter-gatherer mode. He has made it his job is to search the store, looking for the orange and yellow manager's special tags on markdown items. These are usually marked down to rock bottom prices. They provide weekly snacks for a ministry at our church, and they do it for just a few dollars each week. Amazing! The best part is that her husband enjoys grocery shopping in his native hunter-gatherer style!
The best part of manager's special items at Kroger is that you can still use your coupons! For example, I found a box of Quaker Natural Harvest granola bars in a markdown cart at Kroger for $1.78. I had a $1 off coupon, so I got the granola bars for 78 cents.
I was just listening to last week's BlogTalk Radio Show Keeping It Centsible. This web-based radio show airs on Thursday nights and is hosted by Alyssa from Kingdom First Mom and Denise from The Centsible Sawyer. I don't usually listen live, because I'm putting my daughter to bed. But I always listen to the archive found on Denise's website sidebar.
Last week's show was all about saving at the grocery store. They mentioned watching for the manager's tags as one strategy they used. If you're looking for more ways to save, go over to Denise's website and listen to last week's show.
