My $.51 CVS Trip - Totally Unplanned

I wasn't planning on stopping at CVS today. But I heard that the coupon printing machine in the store was printing out the quarterly ECBs this week. I've had to use most of my ECBs for necessities lately, so I really wanted to see how many I had coming for my quarterlies. (It was $12.50 by the way... evidence that we've been sick and had lots of prescriptions this quarter! Yikes!)

Since my roots were once again sparkling in the sunlight, I figured I'd pick up some hair color while I was there. And while I was at it, why not try to spend ALL $12.50 of those ECBs? I've never done this without a well-thought-out plan! But, hey, why not!?!?

Here's what I ended up with.

Starting ECBs: $12.50
Merchandise Value: $22.01
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.51 (plus $.61 tax = $1.21)
Ending ECBs: $6.99
Savings: $21.50 (98%)

What I Bought:
1 Single-Serve Doritos* - $.99
1 20-ounce Diet Mt. Dew* - $1.59
3 Pantene Shampoo/Conditioner - $2.99 each
1 Colgate Total - $2.99
1 Stride Shift Gum - $.99
1 Garnier Hair Color - $4.99
1 Kotex Liners - $1.49

Coupons Used:
-$2.00 off x 3 Pantene coupons from Vocalpoint home mailer
-$1.00 off Colgate coupon from April All You Magazine
-$1.00 off Kotex printable coupon (no longer available)
-$1.00 off Kotex CVS printable coupon (no longer available)
-$12.50 ECBs

Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.51 plus tax

ECBs Earned:
$1.00- Doritos/Mt. Dew
$.99 - Stride
$2.00 - Colgate
$3.00 - Pantene ($1 each)

* I wasn't planning to buy the Diet Mt. Dew/Doritos combination. (Those pesky Diet Mt. Dews keep ending up in my shopping pictures, don't they!?) But in order to use the $12.50 ECBs without losing any of them (you don't get change from them), I needed a couple of small filler items. The cashier suggested the Dew/Doritos deal, because I would get another $1 ECB back. Good idea!

FREE Hair Care Products at CVS!

I was so excited to see that both of the CVS stores that I frequent have installed the coupon printing machines right inside the door!! Emma has taken it upon herself to scan my card each time we shop there. I keep getting coupons good for $1 off any CVS brand hair care item. I didn't think much of them until now.

If you have any $1 off CVS haircare coupons, watch for these shampoos and conditioners.

They don't have a name brand printed on them, but they are CVS brand products. Priced at $.99 each for full-sized bottles, they will be FREE after the coupon!

Thanks, Money Saving Mom!

This overlaps the ECB deal where you get $3 ECBs when you buy $10 worth of Easter candy. Here's how you can get Hershey's Kisses for $.80 per bag.

Buy 6 bags of Kisses @ $1.97 each - $11.82
Use 2
$2.00 off 3 printable coupons
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $7.82
ECBs Earned: $3.00
Final Price: $.80 each!
I had two CVS store coupons from previous receipts that made this deal even better. I had a $2.00 off 2 Kisses, a $1.00 off 1 Kisses coupons, and $5 ECBs. That made my out-of-pocket cost $0. I'll post the picture and details of my trip later this evening. I just thought that you might want to catch this candy deal before it's over on Tuesday.

Well Then... Thank You CVS Corporate!

I think I'm a magnet for drug store coupon issues. Ha! If you haven't read about my love-hate CVS experience yet, read it HERE to catch up. The drama continues.....

Imagine my surprise when I received the following email in my inbox earlier this week. (I've removed names for privacy's sake. (Click the image to enlarge/print.)

Not only did they listen and take action with the store staff, they even reimbursed me for the coupon that I wasn't able to use. I just stopped by another CVS today, and sure enough, my $5 courtesy coupon printed! Wow!

Hats off to the management at CVS and Rite Aid. They've both come through with exceptional customer service!

CVS Trip: I'd Rather Not Pay for Toilet Paper

The thing I dislike paying for most is toilet paper. Sure, we're going to buy it. But that doesn't mean that I want to spend money on it! Today's CVS trip was very helpful, as it allowed us to get a big pack for next-to-nothing.

Here's what we got today:

Merchandise Value: $32.28
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.28 + $1.31 tax = $1.89 total
Savings: $31.70 (98%)

What I Bought:
1 CVS Brand Bath Tissue (24-pack) - $9.99
1 CVS Brand Paper Towels - $1.29
2 Right Guard Sport Active Deodorants - $1.65 each (?)
2 CoverGirl Outlast Lipgloss - $8.00 each

Coupons Used:
-$5.00 off $30.00 purchase CVS coupon received via email
-$1.00 off CVS paper towels printed at coupon machine in the store
-$2.00 off 2 Right Guard printable coupon
-$8.00 CoverGirl Buy 1 - Get 1 FREE coupon from 2/7 P&G insert
-$1.00 off CoverGirl coupon (for the one that wasn't free) from 2/7 P&G insert
-$13.00 ECBs

Extra Care Bucks Earned:
$3.00 CVS Bath Tissue
$2.00 Right Guard
$6.00 CoverGirl Outlast

Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.28 + $1.31 tax = $1.89 total
Savings: $31.70 (98%)

I came out with $2 less in ECBs, but I'm okay with that, especially considering the fact that I didn't pay much for toilet paper.

(?) The Right Guard deodorants rang up a $1.65 each. I was having a nice conversation with my cashier, and I didn't even notice it until I came home. They were advertised at $2.50. I'm not sure why they rang up less!

CVS Trip - Saved 100%

I had 3 $10 CVS gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. I had picked up new prescriptions earlier this week and redeemed 2 of the prescription transfer coupons from the Target ad a few weeks ago. The other gift card came from redeeming the points we earn by using our bank's debit card. I figured I could turn their $10 gift card reward into SO much more!

Here's what I ended up with. (Click the image to enlarge.)

Starting ECBs: $6.00
Merchandise Value: $57.52
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $22.03 (paid with gift cards)
Ending ECBs: $23.00

This isn't my typical trip to CVS. Usually you see out-of-pocket costs of $.37 or $1.29 on my posts. But there were some great higher-priced items that were generating ECBs this week. I wanted to use my free CVS money (gift cards) to buy them so that I could then have the ECBs that they were generating. Technically, my out-of-pocket was ZERO for this week (not even tax!). Yay!!!

What I Bought:
6 boxes Valentine candy hearts - $.13 each
It was getting close to lunch, so 3 boxes are now empty!
2 Revlon eye shadow quads - $6.99 each
2 ThermaCare heat wraps - $6.29 each
1 12-pack Diet Mt. Dew - $3.34
1 Cheez-Its - $1.88
2 Dove Men + Care body wash - $5.49 each
1 Softsoap body wash - $4.99
1 Cheerios cup - $1.00
2 Colgate Total toothpastes - $2.50 each
1 BLUE nail polish - $2.99
(Blue nail polish for a sweet little girl who
REALLY wants blue nails = priceless)

Coupons I Used:
-$5.00 off $30.00 purchase CVS coupon received via email
-$2.00 off x 2 Revlon coupons from 2/21 SmartSource insert

-$1.00 off Colgate Total coupon from Kroger home mailer
-$1.00 off Colgate Total coupon from February All You Magazine
-$.50 off Sally Hansen nail polish coupon from 1/10 RedPlum insert
-$6.00 ECBs from last week

Extra Care Bucks Earned:
$12.00 Dove Men + Care (rain check)
$5.00 ThermaCare
$2.00 Colgate Total
$4.00 Softsoap

Merchandise Value: $57.52
Coupons & Buy 1 - Get 1 Savings: $35.49
Total Paid from Gift Card: $22.03
ECBs Earned: $23.00

My goal with these gift cards is to finish using them by buying items that generate ECBs. That way I can keep rolling them into new products that also produce ECBs. I can keep this up, meaning that I shouldn't be paying for much of anything at CVS for a while!
